Evening Summary

As announced by the Permanent Secretary, in addition to the 26 cases announced already today, we are reporting 9 new cases this evening.

5 of the cases are linked to the Navosai Narere cluster, and 1 to the Waila cluster. 1 is linked to the Nawaka cluster and works in Nadi hospital, and 2 are new cases detected in CWM Hospital. The details of these cases are in the Permanent Secretary’s statement tonight.

There are now 302 active cases, with 284 of these cases from the Lami-Suva-Nausori containment zone, and 18 cases from Nadi. 2 of the active cases in Suva are considered to be severe cases.

There have been 403 cases since this outbreak started in April 2021. Fiji has had 473 cases in total since our first case was reported in March 2020, with 167 recoveries and 4 deaths.

Testing update

68,609 COVID-19 laboratory tests have been conducted since this outbreak started in April, with 111,479 conducted in total since testing started in early 2020. This does not yet include the 11,000 samples recently tested in Australia.

A total of 2732 samples were tested yesterday. The daily average of testing over the last 7 days is 2664 tests per day. At the national level, an average of 3 tests per 1000 population were conducted daily over the last 7 days. The 7 day average daily test positivity is 1.2%.
